Very informative about the history of the city of Cairns. Lots of people stories on display which brings a personal feel, with the photos attached to the stories you almost feel like you are taken back to those times. I realise it is called the Cairns Museum therefore is about Cairns, but I was expecting a bit more about Cape York as a region, and perhaps something about the unique flora and fauna - there was hardly anything about the wildlife surrounding the Cairns area, apart from a small section about what animals would like to eat you here. Overall very happy with my 1.5 hour visit, would come back for sure.
Thoroughly enjoyed Cairns Museum! Engaging stories, easy to follow, and loved the fascinating biographies and facts. Plan for 1.5-2 hours to fully savor the experience and not miss any details or stories. Highly recommended!
There was very informative history of Cairns and display in various ways such as sound recordings and videos
We spent a couple of hours here, it was great to discover the history of Cairns.
You can get a great view of Cains Central from the verandah upstairs.
Lovely little museum with extremely high quality and informative exhibits. I was very excited to see a piece of the Endeavour Tree on display, as I work at a museum that has the rest of that very tree lol. Would love to visit again and hopefully get to chat more with staff, as it was a quiet day when I visited and it seemed that there weren't many staff/volunteers on hand that day, so I didn't want to take anyone away from their busy tasks.
Excellent. What a little gem of a place. Doesn't look like much space from the road, but enter into a magical trip into the past. It's spread out over two floors. Quiet rest spots on the balcony are perfect for views over the streets below. Alot of interesting artifacts you just don't see in a larger museum. True to the region specifically. Lovely, vibrant art, friendly staff and gifts available in the shop. Prices so reasonable for the effort put into presenting unique objects. A excellent time line of the regions also provided. Fascinating trip through history. Thank you!
Diane is the greatest wealth of knowledge, with a joyful passion for the museum exhibits and the building itself. She kindly gave so much of her time to us, showing us the many beautiful features and sharing many amazing facts. Recommend a visit to this museum to everyone.
Although I spent limited time at the Cairns Museum, due to being on an incredible bus tour of the Cairns city and surrounds, provided by Cairns Discovery Tours; Dee, the volunteer guide, was amazing in showing our group the 'History: Way of Life Exhibition'. Dee's passion for history shone through, and I just loved the whole experience! Had I not been leaving Queensland to head on home to Busselton, Western Australia, I would've visited the museum to free range all of what was on offer. Thank you, Dee. 😊
